As you all doubtlessly are aware, a very significant easing of covid restrictions came into effect at 12:01 this morning.
There is now no requirement to wear masks at WASMEx nor any requirement to show your vaccination status or to check in at the door. So it's basically back to business as usual, although we ask you to not come if you are either diagnosed with Covid or feeling unwell.
Early check-in for Pre-Registered Models. On Saturday Morning, pre-registered kits can be bought into the competition hall and checked-in from 09:30 which is half an hour earlier than the non-pre-registered entries. This will further reduce queuing times and provides yet another reason to pre-register your entries.
A free kit for every kid that comes to WASMEx! This week the WASMEx commitee paid a visit to Hobbytech in Myaree who have, once again, allowed us to purchase $1000 of starter kits at wholesale prices; i.e. no profit for Hobbytech. Jordan, the store manager, also threw in a large number of kits and Revell cement bottles for free. Our goal is to make sure that every kid, 16 or under, who visits WASMEx 2022 gets a free kit! While stocks last (and there's a good stock!) there's a free kit for every kid that walks through the door.Kids that enter kits in the competition might leave with several!
We have new caterers! The Canning Lions club have stepped up to the plate and will be providing food and drinks from 8.00AM to 4.00PM on both days. They are promising a new and better menu than previous events. In addition, we confirm that a coffee van will be on-site from 8.00AM to Midday on both days.
Bookings for the Swop and Sell are now open and the tables are going fast. If you wish to book a table please e-mail wasmexsecretary@gmail.com
The first sponsorship agreements and prizes for the competitions have been secured. Scale Model Supplies (SMS) have once again shipped a box of their excellent products from Adelaide to Perth and these will be presented to various winners at the prizegiving. BNA hobbies will be providing vouchers. Most of our on-site vendors will be providing kits and similar prizes.
We wish to remind everyone that 2022 will see a minor revision of the categories and rules of the competition with a view to:
Simplifying the competition by - where practical - reducing the number of categories.
Providing guidance regarding the categorization of 3D printed models.
Recognizing 'Gundam' as a separate genre to more traditional Science Fiction.
Creating a category for models that are created by more than one person.
These changes are not intended to markedly change the competition, however we would urge all entrants to familiarize themselves with the new categories and rules prior to next year's event. The new rules are outlined in yellow text on this page:
As always, any person, group or club interested in exhibiting at WASMEx 2022 should contact wasmexsecretary@gmail.comwith details of their proposed display. Please include an estimate of the number of trestles required. Although we will try to accommodate everyone, space in Cannington hall is limited so we may not be able to award the full number of trestles requested.
The next committee meeting is on Saturday 14 May 11.00 AM - Noranda Clubrooms, Weatherill Way. All are welcome. This will be the 'mop-up' meeting following the event. If anyone has any thoughts regarding what went right and wrong and how to make 2023 even better then this a great opportunity to get your ideas in front of the committee.
