Introduction To add variety to the WASMEx competition and to challenge modellers to step out of their comfort zone we have introduced the ‘WASMEx Showcase Challenge’. The Showcase Challenge will be an annual themed ‘competition within the competition’. Entrants in the Showcase Challenge will be displayed in their own specific area within the competition hall designated the ‘Showcase’. Judges will determine the best model within the showcase and WASMEx will declare this the winner of the Challenge. The winner will be presented with the trophy shown above and will be given a ‘keeper’ trophy to take home. Additional prizes may also be presented.
How will it work?
Each year the WASMEx committee will decide on a theme for the following year’s Showcase Challenge. This theme will be announced at the WASMEx prizegiving ceremony so that each entrant will have one year to prepare. Following the announcement a statement will be published on the WASMEx website outlining the intent of the forthcoming challenge and clear guidelines regarding which subjects are eligible and which are not. During the next year’s WASMEx, eligible models will be entered into category ‘15.1 Showcase Challenge’. The 15.1 Showcase Challenge category will be:
‘Open Scale’ unless the challenge for that year states otherwise.
‘Any modelling method’ unless the challenge for the year states otherwise.
‘Open to any age group’.
Models in category 15.1 will be judged using the same guidelines as for other categories. Entrants in 15.1 will be eligible for Gold, Silver, Bronze and HD awards and other WASMEx special prizes where appliable (e.g. if the subject is Australian, it will be eligible for the ‘Best Australian’ award). Similarly models in the ‘Showcase’ will be eligible for ‘people’s choice’ votes. One model in the ‘Showcase’ will be selected by the judges as the best Showcase Challenge model for the year. This model will be the winner of the Showcase Challenge.
Rules
The Showcase Challenge rules are as follows:
All other rules regarding WASMEx entries apply.
No model that has won any previous award at WASMEx may be entered into the Showcase Challenge.
Judging Guidelines
The item judged will be the model that represents the subject of the challenge. Supporting bases, figures and documentation will not contribute to the decision regarding the winner of the challenge. The only exception is if the challenge explicitly involves dioramas or vignettes.
The final determination of the winner of the challenge will be by secret ballot.
