The 2011 Western Australian Scale Model Expo (WASMEX) held over the weekend of 10 - 11th September with visitor numbers of around 1000 for each day, was up on previous years.
The Club Displays and Exhibition Hall were consistently busy all weekend, without seeming to busy or crowded. Table space was at a premium in the Display Hall with the additional 3 Traders and 1 Club display.
Plenty of variety was provided ranging from Big Rig Trucks action to the Club Displays featuring all subjects of modelling, including a full size Dalek. Perth Adult Lego Society (PALS) won Best Club Display with their table featuring an LNG Tanker and Cruise Liner, with Marine Modellers a close second. Thank-you to all of the exhibitors for once again putting together a great show.
The Competion Hall trialled a new Data Entry System that issued a critique for each entrant’s model, on which the judges scored the model as this gave information back to the entrant.
Competion Tables held 226 entries by 78 competitors. Most Popular Catergories were: Small Scale Armour, Medium Scale Armour and Medium Aircraft - Props. Junior and Intermediate entries were down compared to last year,
probably due to students changing Primary to Secondary school and some entering the workforce.
Interstate visitors Les Applebee and Brian Thewlis took out a number of placings over a range of Catergories.
The Swap and Sell had a new entry point and was held as a separate event on the Sunday , buyers had 20 tables on which to find a bargain. Traders / Sponsors and Swap / Sell vendors on Sunday all added to the atmosphere of the event.
On behalf of the Organising Committee, I’d like to sincerely thank our sponsors: Stanbridges Hobby Shop, Southern Sky Models, Burfitt Craft & Hobby Tools, City Models, J.B. Wholesalers, Creative Plastics, NGTVFilm, Hobby Mania, Ace Radio Controlled Models, SIK Hobbies and Kirkside Products for there continued support, and pass on our thanks to all the judges and club volunteers who help us throughout the weekend.
